Das pockets maiden title in Bhubaneswar Open

Tenth seed Natabara Das beat city opponent and fifth seed Rabindra Moharana to win his maiden open title in the 28th Bhubaneswar Open Chess Tournament, which concluded here at Odisha Secretariat Recreation Club earlier on Monday.

As many as four players tied for the top spot with seven points from eight rounds. However, Das clinched the title in basis of Buchholz tie-break method, while top seed Manas Ranjan Parida, second seed Pravat Ojha and Prakash Chandra Sahoo finished second, third and fourth in the order.

The three-day tournament, involving a total of 106 players from 15 districts, was organized by Bhubaneswar Chess Association (BCA). Balasore Irrigation Division Executive Engineer Rajkishore Ghadai handed over the prizes in the presence of OSRC general secretary Managovinda Dalai, BCA vice-president Bansidhar Bhoi, secretary Arati Bijoy Mohanty and director Debasis Panigrahi.
